Dear Sears Associate,
There is a little more cause to celebrate today. This morning, Sears announced a comparable domestic store revenue increase of 1.3 percent for February, our fourth comp sales increase in the past five months.
Home appliances and automotive continued their positive trends. I was very pleased that improved results in womens ready-to-wear led increases across most apparel categories. Specialty retail sales also improved in February, with strong revenue growth reported by The Great Indoors, Dealer Stores, Sears Hardware and Orchard Supply.
Congratulations for keeping our momentum going.
Wednesday and today I have been conducting town hall meetings in Hoffman Estates to discuss the progress we are making with the Kmart and Sears merger. I am very pleased with the attendance at those meetings, and I appreciate both the questions from associates and the patience you are showing during this period before merger close.
While there are many questions that cannot be answered because decisions have not been finalized, I believe the town halls have been helpful in increasing understanding of where we have been and why our new combined company, Sears Holdings, is the best answer for the future growth of both Sears and Kmart.
The board of directors and I urge all Sears associate/shareholders to vote their proxy and vote in favor of the merger. Thank you.
Alan J. Lacy
