On October 5, 2009, Arthur Marshall notified the Company that he will retire from the Board of
Directors of Western Alliance Bancorporation and its wholly-owned bank subsidiary, Bank of Nevada,
effective October 31, 2009. A copy of the press release announcing Mr. Marshall’s retirement is
attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and is incorporated herein by this reference.
