It’s inevitable that in mergers this size that there will be some areas of overlap. But if I think about that in context, I don’t think that the job losses that emerge from this transaction will be larger than the natural turnover in both organisations this year. So, yes, to be clear, there will be job losses. And we will handle them in the way that we always do, by being good communicators and by being supportive to those whose jobs are affected.

But we need to get it in proportion and I think the key message here is I want the combined organisation to be a magnet for talent. We are going to be employing well over two hundred thousand people around the world. The career opportunities that are available to colleagues within Barclays/ABN will be second to none.
