The Home Depot Canada Foundation Increases Investment To Prevent and End Youth Homelessness by 2030

By: 3BL Media

SOURCE: The Home Depot

DESCRIPTION:

Homelessness rates continue to rise in Canada, where unhoused youth make up approximately 20% of the homeless population. Evidence suggests more than 50% of adults experiencing homelessness have their first instance before the age of 25, according to the Canadian publication, The Roadmap for the Prevention of Youth Homelessness.

Launched by The Home Depot Canada Foundation in 2021, TradeWorx is a collaboration with 10 successful Canadian employment social enterprises (ESEs) to help bridge systemic gaps and prevent youth homelessness. TradeWorx partners provide at-risk youth with the skills training needed to secure a long-term well-paying career in the trades, resulting in the ability to afford and retain housing.

The Home Depot Canada Foundation recently announced its increasing its investment to $125 million to prevent and end youth homelessness by 2030. The Foundation recently surpassed its initial $50 million pledge with more than $5 million disbursed across Canadian communities through The Orange Door Project Campaign, TradeWorx and innovation grants for its 15 regional partners over the last several months.

This renewed commitment focuses on enabling systemic change through investments in three strategic pillars: expanding stable housing for youth, providing quality wraparound community support, and increasing youth employment readiness.

Since 2013, The Home Depot Canada Foundation has supported more than 850 community partners by investing more than $50 million towards preventing and ending youth homelessness in Canada. For more information, visit: www.homedepot.ca/foundation.

Working at Purpose Construction (an ESE) has empowered me by improving my skills to take action in my everyday workflow and to show up with a positive attitude. I am looking forward to seeing where my skills will take me and how far I can push myself to succeed and achieve my goals." - TradeWorks alumni We have been fortunate to partner with some of the country's leading experts on homelessness, helping to inform how we increase support to youth, expand our prevention work, and stay core to our mandate - to prevent and end youth homelessness in Canada.
