Chief Marketing Officer Replaces Marketing Team with AI and Automation

Fractional CMO Uses AI to Replace 80% of Marketing Team

In a move that has been both praised and criticized, the CMO of a creative agency has replaced 80% of his marketing team with AI and automation.

Matthew Jones is a fractional Chief Marketing Officer, said that he made the decision because his client needed to cut marketing costs but still have an effective campaign and he believes that AI is the future of marketing. He said that AI can do a better job of targeting customers, creating personalized content, and measuring results than human marketers.

"AI is not going to replace human marketers altogether," the CMO said. "It’s going to change the way that we implement marketing strategies. AI is going to allow small businesses to do things that were not possible before, and it’s going to allow us to do them more efficiently. AI is going to allow small to medium sized businesses to be in a better position to compete."

The CMO's decision has been met with mixed reactions. Some people on Linkedin have praised him for his forward-thinking approach, while others have criticized him for laying off so many employees.

Controversy is nothing new with Matthew, he faced a lot of adversity developing a robot barista, capable of making espresso drinks like a human barista.

“People are always wary of new technology. However, I have always leaned into new tech, new strategies, because in the end we need small businesses to survive, and thrive. AI gives them a chance,” says Matthew.

It took less than 3 months to replace 2 copywriters, 1 graphic designer and 2 reps managing inbound chats. In a short amount of time, the move to AI and automation brought the marketing ROI from from 3:1 to a staggering 8:1 ROI.

For copywriting, they now use ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. Simultaneously, Matthew trained the AI on the company's previous email responses and social media posts to create more relatable content. Graphic design was replaced by Midjourney and AI was trained on the human reps previous chats to reply to potential customers similarly to the human reps.

Only time will tell whether the CMO's decision will be a success. But one thing is for sure, AI is here to stay, and it is going to have a major impact on the marketing industry.

The use of AI in marketing is still in its early stages, but it is already having a significant impact. AI is being used to assist with email marketing, content marketing, social media marketing, and lead generation. It is also being used to personalize content and targeted ads more effectively.

AI could be used to create new marketing channels, develop new marketing strategies, and measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns more accurately with speedy data analysis.

The use of AI in marketing is not without its challenges. One challenge is that AI can be controversial to implement, risking damaging a company's culture. Another challenge is that AI can be difficult to use for employees new to it. However, the potential benefits of AI are so great that many businesses are willing to overcome these challenges.

The future of marketing is likely to be heavily influenced by AI. AI is already changing the way that marketing is done, and it is only going to become more important in the years to come.

Businesses who are not prepared for the impact of AI on marketing are likely to be left behind. Those who embrace AI and use it to their advantage will be the ones who succeed in the future.
