Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA), an online public charter school, will celebrate the Class of 2021 during an in-person commencement ceremony on Monday, May 17th and a virtual graduation on Friday, May 21st.
The commencement will feature guest speaker Dr. Shaun McAlmont, Stride’s President of Career Learning Solutions, and will celebrate the achievements of 90 students, including National Merit Scholarship Finalist Yusuf Malik.
Collectively, the Class of 2021 reports it has been accepted to technical schools, colleges and universities across the country, including: Louisiana State University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Louisiana Tech University, and Southeastern Louisiana University.
“Our students have worked so hard to get to this day, and our school community could not be prouder of them,” said LAVCA Head of School Danielle Scott-Johnson. “Wherever their path leads them, the tools they’ve earned and the skills they’ve honed in the online classroom will help drive their academic and professional success in the future.”
Students enroll in LAVCA for a number of reasons—some are looking to escape bullying, some may have fallen academically off track, and others are looking for an alternative to the traditional classroom setting. LAVCA students access a robust online curriculum in the core subjects of math, science, English language arts, history, art and music as well as a host of electives. Live virtual classes are taught by state-licensed teachers.
