Key served as secretary of the Arkansas Department of Education from 2019-2023 and commissioner from 2015-2019. Previously, he was associate vice president for university relations at the University of Arkansas System from 2014-2015. Key served as an Arkansas state senator from 2009-2014, holding leadership positions including minority leader and Senate Education Committee chairman, and as a state representative from 2003-2008.
