Industry veteran will hold a keynote fireside chat on the widespread integration of Generative AI within cloud security solutions and what the future may bring
The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), the world’s leading organization dedicated to defining standards, certifications, and best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment, today announced that Shawn Bice, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Cloud Ecosystem Security, will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming SECtember conference (Sept. 18-22, Bellevue, Wash.), the first global event dedicated to the confluence of cloud and cybersecurity. Bice will lead a fireside chat with Caleb Sima, former CISO at Robinhood and chair of CSA’s new AI Safety Initiative, in which they will discuss the viral growth of Generative AI, Microsoft’s vision for the genre, the need for AI-enabled cloud security and how enterprises can safely adopt AI and Large Language Models (LLM).
“The arrival of Generative AI delivered as a service may well be one of the most important technology trends of all time,” said Jim Reavis, CEO and co-founder, Cloud Security Alliance. “This is a top-of-mind topic for industry and government and the excitement over the prospects for enriching lives is dampened by a general lack of knowledge of how LLMs function and a misunderstanding of where the risk lies. Microsoft’s aggressive adoption of this technology is an important industry milestone the cybersecurity community seeks to understand and learn from. Shawn Bice has unmatched credentials in managing iconic hyperscaled database brands, and we believe he is the ideal leader to distill these important trends. We thank Shawn for taking time to join us for a conversation with Caleb Sima, one of cybersecurity’s foremost experts.”
“Microsoft has invested heavily into cloud-delivered AI and sees broad applications of the technology coming to every industry. AI certainly is becoming a key enabler of state-of-the-art cybersecurity and will be a necessary bulwark against malicious actors. We also believe that robust security within enterprise applications using AI is a shared responsibility between all stakeholders,” said Shawn Bice, Corporate Vice President for Cloud Ecosystem Security, Microsoft. “I look forward to the dialogue with customers and security experts as we move forward in managing risks while delivering the next generation of cloud security.”
As Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of the Cloud Ecosystem Security organization, Shawn Bice oversees the team that is taking on some of the industry’s toughest cybersecurity challenges. With responsibility for the core cloud security platform, AI-powered threat and data intelligence, as well as security research and development, Bice's team aims to deliver on the vision to make the world safer and more productive for all. Previously, he held senior leadership roles at Splunk, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft, bringing nearly 25 years of expertise in operational, analytic, and distributed data systems.
Bice originally joined Microsoft in 1997 and quickly became known as a leader driven by a passion for curiosity, learning, and applying those qualities to create new value for customers. Today, his work aims to help organizations manage the range of security risks pursuing their digital transformations. Bice earned a B.S. from Eastern Michigan University and began his career as a United States Army Officer in the 25th Infantry. He has served on the Technical Committee for the Seattle Kraken, an NHL hockey team, and currently serves as a member of the board of directors of Washington Federal Bank.
