Booz Allen Appoints Bill Vass as CTO

Tech leader to accelerate innovation at scale

Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) announced today that William Vass has been appointed chief technology officer (CTO) and will join the firm’s leadership team effective June 17, 2024.

Aligned with Booz Allen’s growth strategy, VoLT (Velocity, Leadership, Technology), Vass will focus on accelerating solutions that leverage the firm’s deep mission knowledge and leading position in AI, cyber, and software and data-centric capabilities.

“As we bring transformative technologies to missions of national importance at speed and scale, we welcome Bill’s leadership to further propel our bold innovation agenda,” said Horacio Rozanski, president and CEO of Booz Allen.

Vass has more than 40 years of experience creating and delivering innovative IT, large-scale cloud, digital twins, 3D-processing extended reality (XR), geospatial, high-performance computing (HPC), quantum computing, quantum networking, robotics, autonomy, and cybersecurity solutions. He was most recently vice president of engineering at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he spent nearly a decade leading software and hardware development for emerging technology services.

Throughout his career Vass has held CEO, COO, CIO, CISO, and CTO leadership positions for both startups and Fortune 100 companies and has led some of the world’s largest global development teams. He previously served as a member of the Senior Executive Service and has received commendations, including the President’s Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service and the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. He has served on the National Security Agency’s Technical Advisory Board and the Defense Science Board.

“Combining a 110-year legacy, deep mission understanding, and advanced technical capabilities, Booz Allen has a singular ability to advance the country’s most critical civilian, defense, and national security priorities with emerging technology,” said Vass. “I’m honored to be returning my focus to these essential missions and look forward to working with Booz Allen’s clients, partners, and talented employees to drive the future forward together.”

Vass will succeed executive vice president and CTO Susan Penfield, who is retiring in July after a 30-year career with the firm.
