Michigan's Upper Peninsula Nominated as the USA TODAY 2024 10Best Destination for Snow

Michigan's Upper Peninsula, known for its awe-inspiring winter landscapes and abundant snowfall, has again been nominated for USA TODAY's 10Best "Best Snow Destination" title.

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI, November 14, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michigan's Upper Peninsula, known for its awe-inspiring winter landscapes and abundant snowfall, has again been nominated for USA TODAY's 10Best "Best Snow Destination" title. After proudly earning the top spot in 2023, the U.P. is ready to reclaim this honor, not only for recognition but to support local tourism and small businesses impacted by last winter's record low snowfall. Voting daily can help showcase the U.P.'s unrivaled winter experiences, drawing visitors from across the U.S. and beyond to discover everything a true U.P. winter has to offer.

"Winning this award again isn't just a badge of honor — it's an invaluable opportunity for our local economy," says Tom Nemacheck, executive director of the Upper Peninsula Travel and Recreation Association. "Last winter's low snowfall hurt local businesses that depend on winter tourism, from small shops and restaurants to adventure outfitters and hotels. This year, we're ready to welcome everyone back to the kind of unforgettable winter our region is known for."

Historically, the U.P. receives over 200 inches of snow annually, blanketing 3,000 miles of groomed trails, scenic lakes and breathtaking peaks with pristine conditions for snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Winter enthusiasts can enjoy frozen waterfalls, idyllic ice-fishing spots and nine ski resorts offering runs for all skill levels. For adventure-seekers, the U.P. offers endless ways to explore, including snowmobiling, dog sledding, ice climbing and fat-tire biking. Local towns add warmth to the season with cozy accommodations.

"This isn't just about snow — it's about the experience that brings people back, year after year," Nemacheck adds. "Each U.P. winter is a celebration, where visitors and residents alike connect with nature and community. By voting, you're not only helping us keep our title; you're helping local businesses and communities thrive."

How to Vote
Help the U.P. reclaim its title by voting daily on USA TODAY's 10Best website from Nov. 11 to Dec. 9, 2024. The winner will be announced on Dec. 11, 2024, at Noon EST.
