DESCRIPTION:
Franklin Templeton’s Black Empowerment Network (BEN) business resource group (BRG), and partners at several of its specialist investment managers, hosted 18 virtual events in honor of Black History Month, celebrated in North America each February. These included webinar Navigating Finance as a Black Woman; Intersectionality and Identity, Kukuwa: African Dance Fitness Workout; and BEN Black History Month Happy Hour. BEN events focused on health and wellness in honor of the month’s theme in the United States, and spotlighted historical and current racial disparities for people of color and solutions to improve those statistics.
BEN’s signature event was an intimate workshop, Light in Dark Moments: Loving Approaches for Black Emotional Health, with an expert of integrative mental health. Two sessions helped employees deepen connections, understand the impact of racism on health and discover the healing power of emotional expression.
“Black History Month honors the contributions and sacrifices of those of African descent, and recognizes our contribution to all our history,” said Karen Lewis, VP, FT Technology, and Chairperson of the BEN BRG. “ As we examined Black health and wellness, we learned about the importance of not just enduring, but of thriving and giving ourselves permission to take care of ourselves and bring our full selves to everything we do.”
