Hugh D. Fuller Jr. on the Most Popular American Powerboating Races

BOCA RATON, FL / ACCESSWIRE / June 3, 2021 / Offshore powerboat racing consists of dozens of top-tier racing events every year, each reaping its own benefits and rewards for racers. Powerboat races take place all across America, with a variety of boating categories for every racer to find the best fit for their skillset. American powerboat racer Hugh D. Fuller Jr. has competed in hundreds of races over his decades-long career and knows better than anyone else the ins and outs of all the best races.

"There are so many different races to compete in, big and small," says Hugh Fuller. "It's all about choosing the best races for your skillset and deciding how many spectators you want to watch you perform."

Below Hugh D. Fuller Jr. shares his insights on the most popular American powerboat races.

OPA Racing

The Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA) holds a number of races each year including the OPA Championships at Englewood Beach in Florida. The OPA Championships are one of the biggest and most popular events on the powerboat racing calendar. Each year, the best racers in the powerboat circuit come together to compete for the championship title. With 75 boats fighting for the title and more than 40,000 expected spectators to enjoy the exhilaration of offshore racing, the OPA Championships always draws a crowd.

"The OPA is one of my favorite races and has been for the past few years," says Hugh Fuller. "When I won the race in 2019, it was a challenge, but the location and spectators made it special."

Super Cat Professionals

The Super Cat Professionals Offshore Powerboat Race is a longstanding premier class race where Hugh D. Fuller Jr. won national and world championships every year from 2001 to 2003. This popular and exhilarating American race involves a throttleman/driver duo with boats reaching speeds of up to 190 mph.

"Racing in the Super Cat Professionals class has taught me everything I know about teamwork," says Hugh Fuller. "Working with teammates like John Tomlinson makes racing in these competitions even more riveting."

Clearwater Offshore Nationals

The Clearwater Offshore Nationals is another popular American race. This competition brings in a large crowd due to the attraction they call the "dry pit," a location where racers stage their boats on land the weekend before the race for spectators to visit and view the boats, teams, and receive autographs. This interactive experience gives racers and fans the chance to connect with each other.

"I won The Clearwater Offshore Nationals in 2011," said Hugh D. Fuller Jr. "This 3-day festival is widely-popular and attracts multiple spectators. I find it enjoyable because I love meeting my supporters and learning more about how they got interested in powerboat racing," he added.
