SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO / ACCESSWIRE / December 17, 2024 / The New Mexico Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMC) announces a bold new initiative. In March 2025, the NMC will hold the first world-class juried exhibition at the internationally renowned Turner Carroll Gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, N.M.

Three jurors reviewed artwork submitted by 172 women - identifying artists who are residents of New Mexico and NMC registry members. 33 were selected for the exhibition from cities around the state including Taos, Santa Fe, Estancia, Las Vegas, Madrid, Jaconita, Cerrillos, Farmington, Medanales , and Las Cruces. The jurors were Tonya Turner-Carroll of the Turner Carroll Gallery and [CONTAINER] in Santa Fe, Marisa Sage Director of the NMSU University Art Museum, and Barbara Stafford independent writer, curator, and speaker.
Regarding the exhibition, Carroll says, "All three of the jurors were very impressed with the quality of the artworks submitted by the extraordinary women artists in New Mexico. Now, more than ever, their voices need to be heard, and their works need to be seen by larger audiences. Most recent reporting still shows that works by women artists make up only 11% of artworks in museum permanent collections, and that works by women artists remain undervalued in comparison to their male counterparts. This exhibition marks not only a celebration of these artists' skill but also an excellent opportunity for contemporary art collectors to acquire artworks selected by a team of curators and art historians, at a hugely favorable acquisition cost. I'm excited to be part of this groundbreaking exhibition."
This project is a long-time vision of art lover, art collector, and long-time board member of the NMC Roddie Harris. "It has been my dream that our member artists are celebrated for their work and that they are acknowledged as the important part they play in both the NMC and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C."
The exhibition will serve as a fundraiser with the goal of bolstering public awareness both of the NMC and the National Museum of Women in the Arts along with the work these organizations are doing to uplift female artistic treasures in New Mexico, the United States, and beyond.
Opening reception on March 1, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. and the gallery is open to the public March 1-29, 2025, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. every day of the week.
