University of Phoenix to Host Webinar on Using Feedback to Improve Psychological Safety

Webinar to examine several types of feedback and practical methods for maximizing effectiveness

University of Phoenix will hold the next installment of its Educational Equity Webinar Series, “Equitable Feedback: Using Feedback to Improve Psychological Safety in Teams,” on September 19, 2024, at 12:00pm MDT. The event is part of a public series intended for educators, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) practitioners, higher education leaders and administrators, employers, nonprofit organizations, government affiliates, and University of Phoenix faculty, staff, students, and alumni across the globe.

"Effective feedback is essential to building trust and psychological safety in any professional environment," says Tondra Richardson, MBA, director of Student Diversity & Inclusion at University of Phoenix and co-host of the series. "By understanding how feedback can be both empowering and inclusive, we aim to equip participants with strategies that foster a culture of open communication. We’re excited to delve into this critical conversation and help participants create spaces where feedback drives growth, collaboration, and equity."

Featuring Marco T. Lindsey, the discussion will explore several distinct types of feedback methods and how to provide feedback that encourages psychological safety for professional teams. The session will also examine ways to create an atmosphere that encourages feedback loops between managers and direct reports, and how to prepare for structured feedback conversations to maximize effectiveness. By the end of the session, participants will be given the tools to navigate power dynamics in feedback conversations, effectively convey constructive feedback, give and receive feedback from colleagues in strained relationships, and instruct others on preferred methods of receiving feedback.

Lindsey is the Associate Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. He was the first African American Chief of Staff at Berkeley Haas, where he has worked and taught for over 17 years. Marco is also a graduate of the school’s Executive Education program. In addition to his role at UC Berkeley, he serves as the Principal at MT Lindsey Consulting. A native Californian, Lindsey volunteers with the Bay Area chapter of the 100 Black Men of America. In 2017, he was named “Man of the Year” for his work connecting countless people of color with opportunities in the tech sector.

The discussion will be hosted by Tondra Richardson, MBA, director of Student Diversity & Inclusion and Saray Lopez, MBA, director, Student Diversity & Inclusion, both with the Office of Educational Equity (OEE) at University of Phoenix. The Educational Equity Webinar Series is part of a series of events with which the OEE engages aiming to foster cultural awareness, thought leadership and community alliances to promote and sustain educational equity and diversity initiatives. The OEE supports students and faculty year-round with programs like the Inclusive Leadership Summit and an internal offering for staff and faculty, The Inclusive Café.
