Tom Hodgman Joins BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group as Senior Portfolio Manager

The BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group (BTG Pactual TIG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Tom Hodgman as Senior Portfolio Manager, focusing on both the firm’s Latin American reforestation strategy as well as conservation strategies across its global portfolio.

Hodgman joins TIG from Goldman Sachs (GS), where he served as Vice President and led the nature-based solutions investment program for institutional and corporate clients. Prior to his tenure at GS, he was Deputy Managing Director at NatureVest, the impact investment arm of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), where he played a pivotal role in structuring and executing significant sustainable forestry, conservation, and forest carbon transactions.

His leadership at TNC included spearheading the Great Western Checkerboards Project, which protected 165,000 acres of forest in Washington and Montana, as well as the 253,000-acre Cumberland Forest Project spanning Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia. The Cumberland Forest Project was recognized as Impact Fund of the Year in 2020 by Environmental Finance1, reflecting its innovative approach to balancing conservation, carbon sequestration, and sustainable forest management.

Hodgman’s career has also included roles at Equator, LLC, where he supported timberland investments in Latin America, and extensive experience in forest carbon finance, sustainable land management, and climate-driven investment strategies. He holds a BA in Environmental Science from Wesleyan University, a Master of Forestry from the Yale School of the Environment, and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tom,” said Gerrity Lansing, Head of BTG Pactual TIG. “His deep expertise in sustainable forestry and conservation finance aligns perfectly with our commitment to delivering high-impact, sustainable investments. As the demand for nature-based solutions continues to grow, Tom’s leadership will be instrumental in advancing our mission.”

“I am excited to join the BTG Pactual TIG team,” said Tom Hodgman. “Their scale, breadth and depth of experience, strong client base, and partnerships with leading conservation organizations is a great opportunity to drive positive impact through private investment in sustainable forestry and restoration.”
