2023 Honda HR-V Earns Top Safety Pick + from IIHS

The 2023 Honda HR-V is awarded the highest honour for safety: the IIHS Top Safety Pick +. The IIHS, known as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization. Notably, it dedicates itself to reducing deaths, injuries and property damage from motor vehicle crashes through research and evaluation while educating consumers, policymakers and safety professionals.

The new HR-V, Honda’s smallest SUV available in Canada, achieves the Institute’s highest possible crashworthiness ratings in all evaluated categories. So of course, its standard front crash prevention system earns “SUPERIOR” ratings from IIHS in vehicle-to-vehicle and daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian avoidance tests.

With this award, a combined six Canadian Honda models are earning 2022 Top Safety Pick ratings or better. Including the 2022 Accord, the 2022 Civic Sedan and Hatchback (evaluated as separate models), the 2023 HR-V, and the 2022 Odyssey. Impressively, they all achieve the pinnacle TSP+ rating. The outgoing 2022 CR-V, when equipped with specific headlights, was also recognized with a 2022 TSP award. However, the all-new 2023 CR-V has yet to be evaluated by IIHS.

Based on Honda’s long-standing “Safety for Everyone” approach, a focus on the advancement of safety for everyone sharing the road, Honda equips all HR-V models with the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies, which include:

- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Pedestrian Detection - Forward Collision Warning (FCW)- Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW)- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

A recent U.S. study shows auto braking systems can reduce rear end collisions by up to 50%. Honda’s Collision Mitigation Braking System and a suite of other safety technologies will keep and your family safe this holiday season.
