"Is It Ever Right to Kill?" by James Myles Delivers a Gripping Tale of Friendship, Sacrifice, and Survival in a War Zone

In a world shaken by conflict and uncertainty, James Myles' latest novel, "Is It Ever Right to Kill?", offers a powerful and emotionally charged exploration through the major theme of war fiction based on personal struggle, humanitarian action, and the relentless challenges of surviving in war-torn regions. This heart-wrenching and thought-provoking can make readers comprehend how a friend committed to one friend can let go of anything major in life just to ease her friend's pain.

In this book, there is a girl named Robyn, a soon-to-be medical graduate whose world is turned upside down when her best friend, Kat, loses contact with her parents following the Russian invasion of Crimea. While many would shy away from the daunting challenge of entering a conflict zone, Robyn’s deep sense of loyalty to Kat propels her to make a life-altering decision: she volunteers to join the Ukrainian forces as a combat medic. This choice is not just about providing medical aid; it's a profound act of solidarity, friendship, and sacrifice, testing Robyn's mental, physical, and emotional fortitude in ways she could have never imagined.

As the novel unfolds, readers are taken on an intense journey through the brutal realities of war. Upon arriving in Ukraine, Robyn quickly discovers that war is far from what one might imagine. Faced with the ruins of missile attacks, the constant threat of violence, and the psychological toll of life on the frontlines, she is forced to confront her doubts, fears, and the dangerous uncertainty that war zones bring.

“Is It Ever Right to Kill?” challenges readers with difficult moral questions: How far would you go to save someone you love? Can violence ever be justified in the name of justice and survival? Through Robyn's journey, author James Myles brings these questions into sharp focus, prompting readers to reflect on their values and beliefs.

This novel is more than just a story of war—it is a deeply human tale about relationships, moral complexity, and the determination to do what’s right, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Readers will be drawn to Robyn’s inner struggle, her unwavering commitment to her friend Kat, and her relentless pursuit of justice in the midst of chaos.

About the Author

James Myles served as a professional infantry officer in a British Regiment for much of his adult life. The role took him into hotly contested zones and he survived shot, shell, sniper fire and IEDs.

The reality of war is not what Hollywood portrays. It is often long, tedious, wet, cold and very seldom clean. The action is mostly swift, very swift with snap decisions based on your best information at that moment. The penalty for getting it wrong can be painful.

James Myles is familiar with the medical CASEVAC system and the long periods of recovery indicating he did not always get it right.

If you are "At the war" (peacekeeping) or "In the war" (war fighting), it is all an education. The story is a reflection of many of those lessons learned.

James Myles lives on the south coast of England beside the sea with his wife and Springer Spaniel.
