The updated collection from Jaleja Products includes premium cotton t-shirts, hoodies and tank tops, all with the company’s “The Birth of Hip Hop” template, featuring Gene Anderson, the entertainer, author and promoter responsible for breaking the first commercially successful rap record in 1980, “Rapper’s Delight,” by the Sugar Hill Gang.
As reported by The New York Times, the official start of hip hop can be traced to August 11, 1973, with a rec-room party in the Bronx, where an artist named DJ Kool Herc used two turntables to create a continuous flow of break-beats. To commemorate five decades of the genre, the collection from Jaleja Products allows hip hop fans of all ages to participate in the global celebrations by wearing the company’s premium street wear, cotton custom garments.
