More than 100,000 people received a common sense guide to better living in Washington, DC
-- The Way to Happiness Foundation DC chapter organized a broad distribution of The Way to Happiness booklet in the DC area over the last month.
A common sense guide to better living, The Way to Happiness is a small booklet written by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard as a non-religious moral code that people of any faith, or none, can follow to create a happier life for themselves and others.
Among this moral code’s 21 precepts (rules or statements advising or laying down a principle or a course of action regarding conduct) is #20 which states: “Try to treat others as you would want them to treat you.” The reader is advised, “Just figure out how you would want people to treat you. You would possibly first of all, want to be treated justly: you wouldn’t want people lying about you or falsely or harshly condemning you…. You would want people to be fair in their dealings with you. You would want them to be honest with you and not cheat you.” Many other examples are given in the precept “Try to treat others as you would want them to treat you.” Following this precept will result in an increase in one’s happiness.
The Way to Happiness has many other precepts such as “Take Care of Yourself,” “Set a Good Example,” and “Be Competent,” which can be applied to improve one’s own survival and that of others around one.
In the last month, one hundred thousand The Way to Happiness booklets have been mailed out to DC households. Three thousand more were handed out to DC visitors on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, by volunteers promoting common sense values. One person receiving the booklet said, “Young people really need this book. It will really help them.” Another Way to Happiness booklet recipient loved it so much that she asked for copies for 300 students housed and enrolled in a trade training program with which she is associated.
Kim Bey, Executive Director of the DC chapter of the Way to Happiness Foundation, said she is working to fulfill the mission of The Way to Happiness Foundation. “That mission is very important in today’s times. We want to bring about an increase in tolerance and understanding between families, groups, and communities in alignment Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision.”
