Smith Provision Recall

Smith Provision Company, Inc. Recalls Over 2,900 Pounds of Smoked & Fully Cooked Boneless Ham. Consumers Urged to Return Product to Place of Purchase for Full Refund or Discard.

ERIE, Pa. - August 21, 2021 - (Newswire.com)

Smith Provision Company today announced a recall of 2,972.25 pounds of Smoked & Fully Cooked Boneless Ham because the product may be contaminated with extraneous metal. The product was sold to retail stores in Pennsylvania between 8/13/2021 and 8/21/2021.

The following product is being recalled:

• 396.3 cases (2,972.25 pounds) of 12-ounce net weight packages containing three "Smith's Premium Gourmet Boneless Ham Steaks with Natural Juices", which are fully cooked, ready to eat, naturally smoked, 97% fat-free boneless ham steaks vacuum packaged for retail sale. Each label bears a sell-by date of 11/21/2021 or 11/24/2021, as well as a UPC code of "5762652515". Each case bears the product code "52515". Each package also bears the establishment number "Est. 9370" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the immediate package label.

The recall is being conducted because in-plant food safety testing indicated small strands of potentially injurious ferrous metal contamination in a small number of packages. Safe food production practices require that all items produced from a potentially contaminated source of raw materials be removed from possible exposure to the consuming public. No illnesses or injuries have been reported because of the products' distribution. The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service has been notified of our action.

"Food safety is our company's top priority," said John Weber, President. "I urge consumers to take this recall seriously and return any and all recalled products to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard the product. Do not serve it to humans or pets, as illness or injury could occur."

"We take this situation seriously. We have already begun aggressive steps to prevent this from happening again," said Weber, "including the rigorous examination of long-standing raw materials suppliers."
