#HudsonGives to Award $20,000 Prize Pool to Nonprofits During Online Giving Day and Competition on May 12

By: Get News

JERSEY CITY, N.J – #HudsonGives, the annual day of online giving for Hudson County charities, is less than one month away but it is already off to a big start thanks to a $20,000 presenting sponsorship from Jersey City-based Goya Foods. In its 4th year, #HudsonGives will be held May 12.

Goya’s sponsorship will help to fund a “prize pool” that will be awarded on #HudsonGives day as local nonprofits spend 24 hours raising money to support a wide range of causes. For example, if a charity has the most donors, they can win an extra $500 from the “prize pool”. Charities that post about their #HudsonGives campaign on social media will be eligible to win a $500 prize. In all, there are more than 20 different prizes available for nonprofits to win.

“With a prize pool this big nonprofits are really going to see an impact,” said Maria Nieves, President and CEO of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce. “Now, when you donate to these nonprofits on #HudsonGives day, the $20,000 prize pool can help make your gift go even further. It will boost the good work that charities are already doing, like Welcome Home raising money to help refugees; AngelaCARES, which assists senior citizens; or Whole Spectrum Autism, which provides support to special needs families.”

More than 100 charities are registered for #HudsonGives, including arts organizations like Art House Productions, Mile Square Theater, and Art Fair 14C; those that serve women and children like York Street Project, Youth Foundation of Jersey City, and Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County; environmental groups like Friends of Liberty State Park and Fund for a Better Waterfront and those that help animals like Liberty Humane Society. Other prize pool sponsors this year include DTCC, Suez, Goldman Sachs and CauseVid, a video production app that is providing free services to #HudsonGives nonprofits.

In addition to the giving day, the Chamber Foundation will host a ribbon cutting event on Friday, May 6 to kick-off the annual giving day. Since 2019, #HudsonGives has helped more than 90 nonprofits raise a total of $1.1 million.

The Hudson County Chamber Foundation, Inc., is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2017, and an affiliate of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce. The mission of the Chamber Foundation is to support the economic development of small- and medium-sized businesses and nonprofit organizations in the region.
