Alfa Chemistry Newly Releases Phospholipids, Modified Lipids, and Functionalized Lipids

By: Get News

New York, USA - January 5, 2023 - Lipids are essential to many body functions and serve as the building blocks for living cells. Alfa Chemistry has been an ISO 9001:2015 certified supplier of nearly all forms of lipids and fatty acids and continues to broaden its product lines by adding phospholipids, modified lipids, and functionalized lipids. These lipid molecules are recently added to the already well-established collection of lipid families of Alfa Chemistry in the hope of bringing more cost-efficient chemical solutions to all its global customers.

Phospholipids

As the major component of the cellular membrane, phospholipids are known for their excellent biocompatibility and amphiphilicity. Meanwhile, this amphiphilicity endows phospholipid molecules with self-assembling, emulsifying, and wetting characteristics, further consolidating the role of phospholipids in many applications, such as in the pharmaceutical industry. According to the alcohol structures, phospholipids can be divided into glycerophospholipids and sphingomyelins. At the same time, phospholipids are further classified into natural phospholipids and synthetic phospholipids based on the source of materials.

Alfa Chemistry now offers a diverse list of phospholipids, including phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidic acid (PA), phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), cardiolipin (CL), and natural phospholipids. To name a few here: 18:1 Cardiolipin (CAS 115404-77-8), Thioetheramide-PC (CAS 116457-99-9), 1-Palmitoyl-2-Azelaoyl-sn-Glycero-3-Phosphocholine (CAS 117746-89-1), POV-PC (CAS 121324-31-0), PAF C-16 Carboxylic Acid (CAS 129879-41-0), 1,2-Dilauroyl-sn-Glycero-3-Phosphatidylcholine (CAS 18656-40-1), etc. are available in Alfa Chemistry.

Modified Lipids

Alfa Chemistry offers varieties of modified lipids, including: PEG lipids, fluorescent lipids, and headgroup-modified lipids. PEG lipids, also known as PEGylated lipids, are mainly used in drug delivery systems; hence, they are highly favored in the field of biomedicine and pharmacy. Fluorescent lipids are the preferred tools for investigating biological functions involving the study of membrane biophysics, lipid biochemistry, and cell biology due to their particular photophysical properties. Alfa Chemistry also provides a series of headgroup modified lipids for synthetic applications, including: 18:1 PE-benzylguanine (CAS 2315262-37-2), 18:1 Phosphatidylethanol (CAS 322647-53-0), 16:0 Biotinyl PE (CAS 384835-54-5), 18:1 Dimethyl PE (CAS 96687-22-8), 18:1 Monomethyl PE (CAS 96687-23-9), etc.

Functionalized Lipids

Alfa Chemistry focuses on the supply of two forms of functionalized lipids, i.e., cationic lipids and bioactive lipids. Cationic lipids are amphiphilic small-molecules serving as versatile tools for delivering DNAs, RNAs, and many other therapeutic molecules and are especially attractive because they can be easily designed, synthesized and characterized. Bioactive lipids are a chemically heterogeneous group of lipids recognized as key mediators of cell growth, adhesion, migration, signaling, and death. Based on the different biochemical functions, bioactive lipids can be divided into four major families: classical eicosanoids, endocannabinoids (eCBs), lysophospholipids/sphingolipids, and specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs). Bioactive lipids are consistently involved in chronic inflammation for pathological characterization, such as cancer, diabetes, atherosclerosis, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, as well as autoimmune and neurodegenerative disorders.

"With years of experience in lipid chemistry, Alfa Chemistry now provides a full range of fatty acids and esters, glycerides, fatty alcohols, sterols, fatty acetates, alkyl methane sulfonates, soaps of fatty acids, wax esters, fatty amines, sphingolipids, phospholipids, modified lipids, and functionalized lipids. They serve as not only structural components of cellular membranes and intracellular second messengers but also ligands for receptors as well as covalently attached post-translational modification to proteins," said the Marketing Chief of Alfa Chemistry.
