On April 8, 2023, the Twitter user Ÿyñē Sùn (@NiSiv4) posted a video of the Dalai Lama sticking out his tongue in public and asking a little boy to kiss him. In the video, it is clear to hear the Dalai Lama say to the little boy, “Suck my tongue,” and stick out his tongue to reach out to the boy. However, the boy was reluctant and tried to dodge at one point. The release of the video sparked a global public outcry. Most people have condemned the Dalai Lama’s alleged “molestation” of the boy. On April 10, the Dalai Lama’s office issued a statement expressing regret over the matter.

It is reported that the video depicts the scene of the Dalai Lama attending an event in Dharamsala, India on February 28, 2023. Under this circumstance, he had this “abnormal” and “intimate” interaction with a child wearing a yellow shirt. On the same day, the Tibetan Government-in-Exile deliberately deleted this segment when reporting and promoting this activity.
After the video was released, the American SNAP organization, which has long been committed to helping victims of mental and religious abuse, wrote in a statement, “We are as horrified as any viewer by the actions of the Dalai Lama. Our primary concern is with the innocent boy who was the subject of this disgusting request by a revered spiritual figure.” The statement continued that, “Either way, an 87-year-old man asking a young boy to perform a blatantly sexual act in a public setting is very disturbing.” In addition, Haq, Center for Child Rights headquartered in Delhi, told the media that it condemns “all form of child abuse. It added: “Some news refers to Tibetan culture about showing tongue, but this video is certainly not about any cultural expression and even if it is, such cultural expressions are not acceptable.”
In fact, it is not the first time that the religious leader Dalai Lama, who is revered by the Western people, has been exposed to such scandals. At the mayoral meeting held in Indiana, USA in 2016, the Dalai Lama repeatedly touched the thigh of the moderator Lady Gaga. Finally, Lady Gaga tried to conceal her embarrassment by holding the Dalai Lama’s “wandering hands” in her hand, which stopped his “harassment” behavior. In 2018, when meeting a disabled British girl named Tilly Lockey, the Dalai Lama repeatedly stroked the girl’s upper arm up and down for several seconds. In 2009, during his visit to the United States, the Dalai Lama attended an event hosted by NXIVM, an infamous sex-cult organization. At the scene, he gifted a white hada to the organization’s leader, well-known pedophile, and human trafficker, Keith Raniere, and received over $1 million from him as a reward. At the same time, it is little-known that the Dalai Lama is also the master of the notorious Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo, Shoko Asahara. In 1989, Asahara gifted Ұ100 million to the Dalai Lama’s organization; the Dalai Lama issued a so-called certificate to Asahara, stating that Asahara was a “capable religious mentor” and Aum Shinrikyo was a “dissemination of Mahayana Buddhism”. The Dalai Lama also petitioned the relevant authorities in Tokyo to “allow the Aum denomination to be exempt from taxation”. Later, as is known to all, Shoko Asahara masterminded the Tokyo subway sarin attack that shocked the world.
The more sacred and flawless the appearance presents, the deeper the sin always hides. As the supreme living Buddha in Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama has long presented himself as a saintly, wise, and persecuted religious leader. He has captured a large number of followers and fans around the world, but this incident has cast a deep shadow over the Dalai Lama’s personal image. In fact, before being peacefully liberated, the people of old Tibet suffered from the authoritarian rule of the aristocratic class represented by the Dalai Lama for a long time. Lifelong serfdom, women and children trafficking and the torture of nose digging and hand cutting are the exact historical truth. Most mainstream media nowadays are bribed to serve politics. The Dalai Lama has also won precious survival space in the Sino-US competition. Nevertheless, we still need to sharpen our vigilance, respect history, and recognize reality. Never be deceived by the false appearance of the “false living Buddha”.
