Sage has announced critical security updates which will affect older versions of its Sage 50 software. Effective September 30, 2023, users running these Sage editions will not be able to reinstall or reactivate the software; the only solution is to upgrade to a newer version. In its announcement, Sage explains that some older versions of the popular accounting software, Sage 50 2020.1 and earlier, use the now-retired Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1. To comply with the latest recommendations from The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Sage is switching to TLS 1.2 and 1.3, already used by its newer software such as Sage 50 2023.0.
