Westlake Village Bongo RX Therapy, EPAP Treatment For Mild/Moderate OSA Launched

The Southern California Pulmonary & Sleep Disorders Medical Center (SCPSDMC) has announced a new therapy option for obstructive sleep apnea, known as the Bongo RX device, now available for patients in Westlake Village.

Thousand Oaks, United States - August 8, 2023

An alternative to CPAP, Bongo RX is designed to provide a less cumbersome and more portable solution for sleep apnea patients with mild to moderate symptoms.

More details can be found at https://sleepmd4u.com/bongo-sleep-apnea-therapy-device

The latest obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) device from the center is FDA-cleared and has been shown to improve sleep quality in patients with mild to moderate OSA. It does not rely on electricity or batteries, making it a convenient option for those who often travel.

Unlike other treatment modalities, such as the CPAP that uses positive airflow to generate pressure within the airways, Bongo RX harnesses the pressure from exhaled air to keep patients’ airways open during sleep.

According to the center, Bongo RX acts as a nasal dilator. The device features soft silicone nasal seals that allow for normal breathing while inhaling but close when a patient exhales, redirecting the airflow through a precisely sized vent hole to generate expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP).

Portable, discreet, and designed for convenience, Bongo RX is available in four different replacement sizes, from small to XL.

The nasal EPAP device is designed, molded, and assembled in the United States and has 510(k) clearance from the FDA. It is reusable and can be cleaned with soap and water.

In addition to Bongo RX therapy, the SCPSDMC offers a range of other treatments for OSA, including inspire therapy.

Established in 1984, the SCPSDMC is the first independent sleep disorder facility to be accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. It is led by Dr. Ronald Popper, a board-certified sleep specialist.

A satisfied patient said, “Dr. Popper and his entire staff are extremely knowledgeable and experienced in their field. Over my time as a patient here, they have run tests, asked good questions, remained patient with me, and ultimately diagnosed and successfully treated a lifelong issue with the help of the Bongo RX device. As a result, my quality of life is remarkably improved.”
