AspenCore, the leading electronics industry global Media and SaaS group, has recently released its 21st edition of the Silicon 100. The Silicon 100 is an annual list of electronics and semiconductor startups with strong potential in delivering technologies of the future.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - July 12, 2021 - PRLog -- Peter Clarke, the veteran technology journalist who has curated EE Times' Silicon 100 since its inception in 2004, has been keeping track of emerging startups and analyzing the peaks and troughs of capital investment. He has compiled this list after observing and investigating the ecosystem from June 2020 to end of April 2021.
This year, EE Times Silicon 100 goes deeper. The technology universe was divided into 22 categories that run from materials and packaging at a fundamental extreme to quantum computing and security at the highest level of abstraction. Categories include:

This year's Silicon 100 also features a new section, the China Fabless 100. EE Times China has created a list that ranks China's fabless semiconductor companies to peek into the future of semiconductor design in China.
"China Fabless 100 is the first ranking of China fabless companies in China's semiconductor industry," said Yorbe Zhang, Head of AspenCore Asia-Pacific. "Among more than 2,000 IC design companies, the 100 companies on the list represent the status and future of China's chip design industry. Although their technology strength and revenues are still relatively small in the market, they will have a great impact on the global semiconductor market in the next 3-5 years."
EE Times Silicon 100 once started as the Silicon 60. It was expanded in 2020. The story of electronics is about the expanding role and accessibility of compute power. That expansion began with the creation of the Internet, accelerated with the ubiquity of wireless networks and smartphones, and sped up yet again with pandemic-era videoconferencing. Enabling it all was innovation emerging from non-stop R&D activity. Over time, startups have become extremely important vehicles for performing R&D, and as electronics become more pervasive, startups keep emerging with novel technologies, implementations, architectures, and materials. That is why, in 2020, EE Times expanded what had been the Silicon 60 into the Silicon 100. The 2021 edition is the second Silicon 100.
"Silicon 100 draws a comprehensive picture of semiconductor technology trend," says Martin Chatterton, Vice President & Global Publisher – AspenCore. "Selection is based on the consideration of a mix of criteria, including but not limited to technology, intended market, financial position and investment profile, maturity, and executive leadership. Silicon 100 is the go-to guide of who's who and what's up among the annual flood of electronics and semiconductor startups."
